What else have you got?
Okay, why a cemetery?
We know it’s unconventional, but it’s intentional.
Surrounded by the buried bodies of strangers, we, bolstered by your vibrance and vitality, seek to reverently celebrate the beauty of life. We’ll honor our connections to the earth, to the universe, and to each other. The layers and legacy of love amplify the mirth and multitudes you bring to our union.
May we always remember we are earthdust, moondust, stardust. Even in death, love remains - it burns and glows from afar. Our love is old light that shines in darkness.
What should I wear?
Your funeral best.
The bride and groom with both be in black, and it’s okay with us if you’re in black, too! Other dark colors are welcome as well.
What’s most important is that you feel comfortable in what you have on, and that you come ready for dancing. Yes, even you, Mr. Two Left Feet. Life’s too short to hold up the wallpaper at a party.
Are children welcome?
For those of you whose children have been invited to celebrate with us, we’ll have a wee kid zone with coloring pages and other little activities at the reception in case they get bored or need a dance break.
If your children were not invited, it’s not because we don’t love them! We just had to make some choices as we’re sure you understand.
Okay if I have to skip the ceremony?
We know a Friday evening wedding can be tricky, especially for out-of-towners. If you can’t make it to the ceremony, we understand! But we definitely hope to see you at the Square Room. Simply RSVP accordingly so we can be sure we have enough seats for all the butts who will be joining us.
What if hotels are full?
Rocky Top orange will be in full effect this weekend, as Saturday is a game day and activities are happening all weekend around UT. That said, many of the hotels in and around downtown Knoxville are already booked or blocked.
We weren’t able to get a room block anywhere because of this, but there’s still some availability here and there. Airbnb could also be an option.
I can’t have dairy, gluten or meat. Will I be able to eat?
We’re working with our caterers to ensure we have a delicious menu for all to enjoy.
I have another question. Who can I ask?
You have Jenna’s phone number - send her a text!
What’s the parking situation?
For ceremony attendees, park in the lot at St. John’s Lutheran Church across the street from Old Gray Cemetery. You will need to walk across Broadway to get to the cemetery.
Do not drive into the cemetery (any other time, it’s drivable, just not this time!).
For reception-goers, game weekend will impact parking. There is a free garage at Market Square - which is what we recommend if available. There’s also street parking and other lots and garages in the area.
We’re looking into arranging group transport from the church to Market Square and back; if this is something you are interested in, please let Jenna know.
You’re a Wise, I was expecting owls.
Just like owls are a symbol of wisdom, so are ravens in many myths and legends. In Asatru Nordic religion, ravens are highly recognized as the messengers and keys of wisdom, knowledge and memory to the gods.
We chose the raven because of their wisdom, craftiness, and because they’re monogamous and always found in pairs.
Also: Edgar Allan Poe, duh.
What happens if it rains?
In the event of inclement weather, our ceremony will be moved indoors at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
